Yesterday, the Institute for Culture of Ruthenians in Vojvodina celebrated the 100th anniversary of the first newspaper published in the Rusyn language, titled “Ruthenian Newspapers,” which first appeared in December 1924.

The event was organized by the Journalists’ Association of Rusyns (NAR) and attended by notable figures, including Saša Sabadoš, Director of the Institute for Culture of Ruthenians in Vojvodina, Dr. Boris Varga, Director of “Ruske slovo,” and long-time journalists and editors of the Rusyn language program at RTV Vojvodina, Marija Tot and Mirko Kanjuh. The program was moderated by Aleksandra Bučko.

The anniversary provided an opportunity for representatives of the Rusyn media community to reflect on the lessons learned over the past century of providing news in the Ruthenian language. Discussions focused on the challenges faced, such as negative demographic trends, financing issues, and other obstacles related to the provision of information in the Ruthenian language, as well as exploring potential avenues for the future development of Ruthenian language.
