On January 18, a ceremonial academy was held in the large hall of the Dobrica Milutinović Theater as part of the central celebration of the Day of the Ruthenians in the Republic of Serbia.

The Institute for Culture of Ruthenians in Vojvodina organized a rich cultural and artistic program at various locations in Sremska Mitrovica for this occasion. The central celebration was attended by local leaders, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Serbia, the Provincial Secretariat, and the National Council.

Since 2007, January 17 has been recognized as the National Day of the Ruthenians, celebrating their official settlement in Serbia. On this day, 270 years ago, Franz Josef de Redl, an advisor to Maria Theresa, signed the agreement for the settlement of the Ruthenians.
In her address, Deputy Mayor Danica Nedić emphasized that the city of Sremska Mitrovica is committed to supporting and cooperating with members of the Ruthenian national minority.
A series of programs took place, including a public lecture commemorating two significant anniversaries: the 100th anniversary of the “Ruthenian Newspapers” and the 80th anniversary of the newspaper “Ruske Slovo.”
