The National Committee for the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Serbia has made a decision on entering new elements in the National Register of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Serbia. By the decision of the Committee, “Easter customs – consecration of paska” has been included in the National Register of Intangible Cultural Heritage at the suggestion of the Museum of Vojvodina, as well as the custom “Small Circle” at the suggestion of the Academic Society for Nurturing Music “Gusle” from Kikinda.
Thus, the consecration of the paska has become the “living cultural intangible heritage” of Serbia and is on the list under number 52. The complete documentation on the nominated intangible cultural heritage is permanently kept in the Center for Intangible Cultural Heritage at the Ethnographic Museum in Belgrade and is now a part of the database on intangible cultural heritage in the Republic of Serbia. Inclusion to the list enables stronger cooperation with the Center in raising awareness of the importance of preserving this element, recognizing it, practicing it and passing it on to the next generations.
The National Register of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Serbia, which is kept at the Center for Intangible Cultural Heritage at the Ethnographic Museum in Belgrade, was established in June 2012. At the moment, the Register contains 53 elements of “living heritage”, which different communities have recognized as a feature of their own identity and, passing it on from generation to generation, have preserved it to this day.
