Yesterday, at the Institute for culture of Ruthenians in Vojvodina, the promotion of the book “Як гуторя дїдове – швет бул давно иншаки” (“How grandfathers say – the world was different long ago”), authored by father Vladimir Edelinski Mikolka, was held. It is a study on the basic characteristics of Rusyns in Bačka and Srem, published by the Institute in cooperation with “Ruske slovo”.
The director of “Ruske Slovo” dr Boris Varga and the director of Institute Saša Sabadoš spoke at the promotion, and the moderator was the editor-in-chief of the publishing activity of “Ruske Slovo” Nikola Šanta. Ethnologist dr Tatjana Bugarski from the Museum of Vojvodina, ethnologist Ljubomir Međeši and sociologist Vanja Dula also spoke about the book.
As it was said at the promotion, the study “Як гуторя дїдове – швет бул давно иншаки” on the basic traditional characteristics of Rusyns in Bačka and Srem, in which customs, folklore, ethnographic elements, beliefs and in general the everyday life of our ancestors are presented, represents a significant step in a comparative study of the customs of the Ruthenians on both sides of the Danube. Apart from the analytical, the empirical component of this study especially contributes to its importance for the development of Ruthenistic studies.
