Yesterday, April 24, an event celebrating Havrijil Kosteljnik was held at the Institute for the Culture of the Vojvodina Ruthenians. The occasion marked two important anniversaries of Kosteljnik’s literary work. This year is the 100th anniversary of the publication of “Jephthah’s Daughter,” which is the first play in the Ruthenian language, and the 120th anniversary of the publication of the first book of artistic poetry in the Ruthenian vernacular, titled “Idyllic Wreath – From My Village.”
Academician Julian Tamaš, Dr. Đura Hardi, and Dr. Ana Rimar Simunović spoke at the event. They emphasized Kosteljnik’s significance as the founder of the Ruthenian literary language and artistic literature, as well as his roles as a national theologian, clergyman, philosopher, and prominent intellectual in Europe.
