On Friday, September 22, in the premises of the Institute for culture of Ruthenians in Vojvodina, the promotion of Radovan Sremac’s book “Rusyn families in the villages of the Šid municipality” was held.
The following spoke about the book: Tatjana Bugarski, Ph.D., Helena Međeši, M.Sc., historian and director of the Institute Saša Sabadoš, M.Sc., and author Radovan Sremac, M.Sc. Sremac pointed out that, regardless of the fact that the basis of the book is statistics, data such as names and surnames of ancestors, still know how to interest people’s stories. More complete knowledge about their ancestors can help today’s generations to respect and preserve their identity, to get to know themselves and their cultural and historical heritage better.
In the monograph “Rusyn families in the villages of the municipality of Šid” the complete Greek Catholic registers for villages in the municipality of Šid were processed and systematized: Adaševci, Bačinci, Batrovci, Berkasovo, Bikić Dol (Privina Glava), Bingula, Vašica, Višnjićevo, Gibarec, Erdevik, Ilinci, Jamena, Kukovci, Ljuba, Molovin, Morović and Sot. These are the registers of the Greek Catholic parishes in Šid, Bačinci and Berkasovo. In the period from 1803 to 1925, a total of 4099 births, 2716 deaths and 720 marriages were registered in them.
